Feng shui, literally wind and water in Chinese, is an ancestral art based on principles of interior design designed to achieve fullness. Discover what feng shui is and practical advice on how to design your home!

You wonder what feng shui is? It is an art of living in harmony with one’s environment. It is about maximizing positive energy (chi) by reorganizing space. Born in ancient China, feng shui has become very popular throughout the world. It allows us to regulate the energy that surrounds us in order to balance yin and yang. It is the principle of harmony, the tao!

There are ten basic rules to start and practice feng shui. The entrance to the house should be well maintained. It is important to unclutter the rooms and position all the furniture in the house or apartment correctly. They must not obstruct the passage. It is advisable not to put a desk in the room and always make sure to separate work and rest areas. Do not leave broken or damaged things at home. It is essential to make repairs as quickly as possible. This allows energy to flow freely.

You should also hang mirrors, avoiding putting one in front of the front door. It is recommended that you decorate your house with plants, flowers and fruit. Avoid flowers and plants with thorns! To promote sexual health, you can place a bowl of fruit in the room. You should also know that oranges and lemons are supposed to bring good luck. Don’t hesitate to place several of them in your home.

The presence of water is essential in the practice of feng shui. The ideal is to install a fountain to promote relaxation and harmony. Concerning colors, you must make the right choice and favor soothing colors in living room such as the living room. The last piece of advice is to avoid sharp lines and corners. Feng shui prefers curves.

What’s the plan for a feng shui house? What are the different areas?

Feng shui divides the house into 9 equal zones which correspond to a cardinal or semi-cardinal orientation (North, North-East, North-West, South, South-West-South-East, West, East and Centre), this is called the Lo shu (square or rectangular plan) or Bagua (circular plan). Each zone corresponds to a living area that allows you to determine favorable and unfavorable activities in the plan of your home or in each room. The Center point of the house should ideally be in the center of your plan. It must be clear and allow for traffic.

Living areas:

Southeast Wealth and prosperitySouth Recognition and social lifeSouth-West Relationships and Couples
East Health and FamilyCenterWest Projects and kids
Northeast KnowledgeNorth Career and experienceNorthwest Luck and external aid

The colors used:

first, concerning colors, you should know that bright colors symbolize yang and calmer colors symbolize Ying. Use the yang colors in living and action rooms such as the living room, kitchen, office and yang colors in resting rooms where one seeks peace and quiet such as the bedroom for example. However, you must take care to find a balance between the two to bring a feeling of well-being into the room. Colors are also associated with emotions that are often linked to the principle of chromo therapy:

Red: dynamism and passion

Yellow: exchanges and communication

Blue: wisdom and serenity

Purple: spirituality

A feng shui room:

For a room that corresponds to feng shui concerns, the room should be uncluttered by both furniture and clutter. Positione the bed with the head against the wall and as far away as possible from the window and door. Sharp objects or furniture with sharp angles should be banished in favor of softer lines to create a soothing atmosphere. To avoid disturbing sleep, do not place a mirror in front of the bed and exclude electro-magnetic devices from the room. Prefer soft lighting with a dimmer switch if necessary to adapt the brightness to your needs.

A feng shui salon

In the living room too, make sure that the space is uncluttered so as not to block the flow of “chi”. Then arrange your furniture according to a square or rectangular plan. The sofa will ideally be placed against a wall without opening and the coffee table will be chosen in a rounded shape. Mirrors are welcome in this room as long as they do not reflect the entrance, kitchen or toilet doors. As for plants, they will help block negative energies, so don’t deprive yourself of them!

A feng shui office

In the office, too, the order is needed so that energies can flow freely. Ideally, you should positione the office close to a source of natural light, taking care not to face a wall or a door. On the other hand, having your back to the wall is a way of giving you confidence. Prefer a piece of furniture with curved lines for questions of harmony. Green plants and water (small fountain or picture) will be preferred in your space.
